AUGUST 2009 NEWS
July-September is the 3rd Quarter.
To help everyone also understand how the class count works for this month: August’s Class Count started on Friday, July 31st and goes through Tuesday, August 25th.
August Bible Trivia
Simply answer the questions & turn in the form at the end of the month. You will receive a certificate at this quarter’s graduation (in October).
August S.T.A.R.S. (Students Taking A Responsible Stand) sheets are on the front table.
August 3rd - 8th INTEGRITY August 10th - 14th PERSEVERANCE
August 17th - 21st DILIGENCE August 24th - 28th CONFIDENCE
Each student must successfully complete the STARS sheets (with parents help if needed).
Turn in the form at the end of the month. You will receive a certificate at this quarter’s graduation (in October).
BLACK BELT CLUB WEAPONS STUDENTS!
The Black Belt Club Weapon for the 3rd Quarter (July-September) is NUNCHAKUS.
Make sure that you have the required weapon when you come to weapons class this quarter.
We are offering BBC Weapons Classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays that will count toward your required number (4) of classes. Students will be tested in Weapons during your Karate Stripe Test.
Our Super Summer 2009 Graduation was Friday, July 17th and Saturday, July 18th at CFK. Congratulations to all of our students who graduated! A BIG Congratulations to: Nate Grigsby, who ranked to Little Dragon Black Belt; Melissa Ebeling, who ranked to Junior Black Belt;and Nathaniel Hulsey, who ranked to Junior Black Belt.
Please write your initials on your belt if you have not already done so. Also, students wearing two-tone belts (e.g. orange/yellow belts), the lower rank goes on top when wearing the belt.
We would also like to say THANK YOU for everyone who helped with graduation preparations and decorations! We really appreciate all of you who filled out a GRADUATION SURVEY! If you have not filled out a survey and would like to do so, surveys are on the front table.
CFK’S FIELD DAY was Saturday, July 25th at Sparkman Park in Hartselle.

Everyone also had a BLAST (literally) at our 6TH ANNUAL WATER GUN BATTLE. It was perfect weather for an all-day outside event!
Pamela Dodgen (Chappell’s Karate Enrollment Director) had surgery on her back on July 30th at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She is currently at home recovering. She would like to thank everyone for your prayers, thoughts, and cards.
On Saturday, August 1st, CFK co-hosted a martial arts seminar at T.C. Almon Recreation Center (Point Mallard) in Decatur. There were several of the highest-ranking martial artists in our area teaching different styles of martial arts. Congrats to Charles Gibson, Ashley Holmes, Barbara Marsh, Daniel Marsh, and Nick Wood for attending!
Congrats to Tina Parker who took her 1st Degree Black Belt test on August 2nd. She will be presented with her Black Belt at our Fall Graduation (in October).
JULY’S KARATE MAKE-UP CLASSES & MAKE-UP STRIPE TESTS
If you did not get your required number of classes in for July and/or you missed Stripe Testing, we will offer free MAKE-UP CLASSES and MAKE-UP STRIPE TESTS on SAT., AUG. 8th .
MAKE-UP CLASS SCHEDULE:
ALL BEGINNERS (Kids, Teens, & Adults) 10am-12pm BLACK BELT CLUB JUJITSU 10am-12pm LITTLE DRAGONS 11am-12pm ALL INT. & ADV. (Kids, Teens, & Adults) 10-12pm
Each 30 minutes counts as one class. So if you need 4 classes, stay 2 hours. If you need 3 classes, stay 1½ hours. If you need 2 classes, stay 1 hour. If you need 1 class, stay 30 minutes.
Then we will have MAKE-UP STRIPE TESTS.
So if you needed Make-Up Classes you will also need to stay for the Make-Up Stripe Tests.
MAKE-UP TEST SCHEDULE:
LITTLE DRAGONS: 12pm
BEGINNER KIDS, BEGINNER TEENS, & BEGINNER ADULTS: 12pm
BBC JUJITSU: 12pm
INT./ADV. KIDS, INT./ ADV. TEENS, & INT./ ADV. ADULTS, & BLACK BELTS: 12pm
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not come to these MAKE UP CLASSES & MAKE UP STRIPE TESTS, there will be a $10.00 CHARGE for EACH additional class & a $15.00 charge for the test.
Leadership Team will meet
on Saturday, August 8th at 1pm at CFK.
Chappell Sensei turns 42 on August 10th. Be sure and let him know how much you appreciate him! P.S. For those of you who attend graduations and hear his jokes and you would like to buy him a little something, he (or you) might appreciate a JOKE (clean) BOOK as a birthday gift!
AUGUST’S STRIPE TESTING
will be Wednesday, August 26th and Thursday, August 27th.
NOTE: Due to the tests- No regular classes. Complete uniforms MUST be worn to test.
Remember, you only need to come to ONE TEST unless an Instructor tells you otherwise!
Little Dragons: 3:15pm OR 6:00pm (each day)
Beginner Kids 3:15pm or 5:00pm (each day)
Intermediate and Advanced Kids 3:15pm or 6:00pm (each day)
Teens & Adults (all ranks): 7:30pm (each day)
Little Dragons MUST have a minimum of 4 classes by Tuesday, August 25th.

Don’t forget! In an effort to simplify our ordering process, we are ordering weekly on TUESDAYS.
So if you need a karate item quickly, please let Jacob Chappell or Ms. Dodgen know on Mondays.

When you get your report cards this school year and you have all A’s OR All S’s or all A’s and B’s & you have good conduct on your report card, bring your report card to class, show it to an Instructor, and you will be rewarded with an ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT EXCELLENCE CERTIFICATE at our next graduation!
Any student who would like for an instructor to come and eat lunch at school (during the school year) with you, see someone at the front and he/she will schedule a time!
Any student who can perform the full splits, please let Chappell Sensei know. You will be allowed to demonstrate the full splits in class and will be awarded a FULL SPLITS AWARD CERTIFICATE at our next graduation.

Remember that you MUST have the required equipment to participate in Sparring:
Beginner students who participate in hand pad drills must have Handpads and a Mouthpiece.
Intermediate and Advanced students who participate in regular sparring must have a Headgear, Handpads, Feetpads, Shinguards, and a Mouthpiece. Also, males must wear a groin cup.
DON’T FORGET!
We offer extra classes (in addition to our regular classes) on Wednesdays
for Beginner Kids, Int. and Adv. Kids, and Black Belt Club Jujitsu.
The schedule is as follows:
BBC Jujitsu: 3:45-4:15pm; Int. and Adv. Kids: 4:15-5:00pm; Beginner Kids: 5:00-5:45pm
